The Windows 10 Switch Off Is Getting Closer!

Microsoft will cease support for Windows 10 on 14th October 2025, as the Windows 11 countdown has begun for users seeking the latest features.
In an official post on the Microsoft website, Microsoft has finally announced the end of the line for Windows 10 after over 10 Years of active service. Windows is still one of the most popular operating systems, running on most personal computers and business systems worldwide.
Microsoft will continue however to offer a paid for support service that can be implemented to keep Windows 10 running for longer. This is provided through their Extended Security Updates program. But even this is limited! The following is not covered:
- New Features
- Customer Requested Non-Security Updates
- Design Change Requests
This is also on top of the fact that you wont be getting general support for Windows 10. ESU (Extended Security Updates) will only cover specific situations that it is purchased for. This means also having an active support plan in place.
So where does this leave the rest of us that do not want to be left behind?
We should update and upgrade to Windows 11.
Does this just involve the click of a button? It’s not that easy. With the progress that Microsoft has made over the last few years concerning AI and increased productivity features, Windows 11 will come with a significant resource drain. Running the Windows PC Health Check App will show you whether or not your system is ready for the upgrade. If not, you and your organisation may find themselves having to update a significant portion of their systems.
Sometime this may mean that a simple hardware update may be in order. But this may not always be the case. Total system changes may be required to ensure that equipment does not end up lagging behind the official requirement
